Farm of the Sagas
Svínafell
Svinafell is Flosi's home in the east — the seat of the man who led the burning of Njáll, and the place where the saga's great feud at last comes to peace. Here the honourable, reluctant Flosi lives; and here, at the very end, the storm-driven Kári — who has hunted Flosi's burners across the world — is shipwrecked and comes for shelter, and the two men, avenger and burner, are reconciled. Svinafell is the saga's image of the place of reconciliation — the eastern home of the man who did the black deed and spent the rest of the saga atoning for it, the hall where the avenger of the Burning, at the close of all that killing, chooses peace, and the greatest of the sagas ends not in more blood but in the clasping of enemies' hands.
